Amazon Book Map

The need was to create an interactive map that showed the most popular books of each state for the year 2020. The goal is not only show where the reader can find their next favorite read, but also give them insight into what books are most popular amongst their peers and with that to hopefully drive more engagement.

The client provided data that included which book was bestseller for each state. Starting with the wireframes, I explored how to present this information in a way where it would be most useful and engaging to our users. Should they see all of these books upfront or hidden behind an interface element like hotspots? Does seeing one specific title entice more engagement than just taking general list of of book covers in a side menu? In the end we decided that having the map front and center was most important stripping away the books, not to be seen until hovering or clicking on a state.

This is ideal because it allows the user to look for their state first istead of a book. Putting the ephasis on location helps drive home the initial goal of client which is to try to drive engagament through community.

In a follow-up meeting the client also revealed that the book map would living on many marketing landing pages. Allowing marketing teams to place where needed in their campaigns. Gathering this new information meant that I needed to revise the look and feel of the creative so it can live seamlessly on any page on Amazon's website versus a interactive landing page that had to hold it's own creatively.
